• Kinetics is the study of how fast chemical reactions occur.

• There are 4 important factors which affect rates of reactions:
  • reactant concentration,
  • temperature,
  • action of catalysts, and
  • surface area.

• Goal: to understand chemical reactions at the molecular level.
